SUMMARY:The Joy of Cooking: Cooking Skills for Independent Living
DESCRIPTION:Whether independent living is one of your current goals and you are planning to move out soon\, or it is a long-term goal for the future – you can begin preparing for it now – starting in the kitchen! \n\n\n\nThis hands-on session is a great way to help you increase your confidence in the kitchen. While preparing a tasty and well-balanced dinner\, participants will also learn about: \n\n\n\n\nThe importance of good hygiene\,\n\n\n\nCleanliness in the kitchen and the importance of preventing cross-contamination\,\n\n\n\nThe proper use of utensils\,\n\n\n\nHow to properly measure and prepare food\, and work with others.\n\n\n\n\nAnd then\, you’ll get to enjoy what you’ve made for dinner! The menu for this session is Fish Tacos with Red Lentils as a side dish (Yum!). \n\n\n\nMonday\, December 1\, 20255:00 – 8:00 p.m.In-person at The Ability Hub (300\, 3820 24 Ave NW) \n\n\n\nThis session is limited to six participants. DESCRIPTION:Many individuals can benefit from what is often referred to as a “third space”—a place separate from home or work or school where there is no obligation to spend money on food or beverages. So we’re opening our doors to members of our community. \n\n\n\nWe invite you to drop in and use our space to help you unwind or recharge—with no pressure to engage in structured activities. We have several rooms and spaces available–a quiet lounge\, computer desks\, hang out sofas–you choose. It’s your time to use your way. \n\n\n\nOur space provides flexible seating options\, focus tools\, and adjustable lighting options as we strive to make our space more welcoming and inclusive to those who wish to spend time in it. \n\n\n\nOur drop-in hours are 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHere are some suggestions of things you may like to do\, but this is not an exhaustive list: \n\n\n\n\nSocializing: Chat with others\, make new connections\, or catch up with friends\n\n\n\nUsing Computers: Access  the internet\, complete personal tasks\, or explore hobbies online. DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in learning more about all the stages of the employment journey and the steps you can take to lead you on a path to success? We are offering a series of workshops that cover many topics related to finding a job\, keeping a job\, and thriving in the workplace.  \n\n\n\nJoin us Wednesday\, December 3 from 10 a.m. to Noon to learn how to search and apply for jobs as well as create a reference list. \n\n\n\nSpecifically\, you will: \n\n\n\n\nLearn where to look for jobs\, including the hidden job market\,\n\n\n\nLearn how to ensure your resume will get through an Applicant Tracking System (ATS)\, and\n\n\n\nLearn who to include on your reference list and how to format it.\n\n\n\n\nWednesday\, December 3\, 202510:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.In-person at The Ability Hub (300\, 3820 24 Avenue NW) \n\n\n\nThe workshop combines classroom instruction and time to practice what you’ve learned with support from the facilitators\, if needed. SUMMARY:Navigating Bullying and Neurodivergence Series
DESCRIPTION:This workshop series is for Autistic and neurodivergent individuals who want to build practical skills to understand\, respond to\, and help prevent bullying. Together\, we’ll explore why bullying happens\, how to recognize it in different settings (including online and in the workplace)\, and how it uniquely affects neurodivergent people. These interactive sessions offer hands-on activities to practice strategies in a supportive\, inclusive environment. \n\n\n\nPlease note: This is a skill-building series and not a bullying support group\, or a substitute for professional mental health or crisis support.  \n\n\n\nParticipants are strongly encouraged to attend all three in-person sessions for this series which will be held as follows: \n\n\n\nSession 1: Understanding Bullying on November 19. Participants can drop-in between 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to engage in an\, “Open Interest  Night” and join the fun whether by showcasing your unique interest\, or simply by enjoying the company of others. Pizza will be served! \n\n\n\nThe concept of an\, “Open Interest Night” stems from an Open Mic Night. The Open Interest Night will provide a safe and welcoming space where participants can share their interest with peers and express themselves creatively. Some of the interests you can share are: \n\n\n\n\nVisual art (painting\, drawing\, etc.)\n\n\n\nItems you may have made (crochet\, knitting etc.)\n\n\n\nMusic\n\n\n\nWriting (poems\, stories\, scripts)\n\n\n\nPerformances (stand up comedy\, monologues)\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease click on the button that says\, “RSVP” to confirm your attendance for the event and for the organizers to plan accordingly. DESCRIPTION:Many individuals can benefit from what is often referred to as a “third space”—a place separate from home or work or school where there is no obligation to spend money on food or beverages. So we’re opening our doors to members of our community. \n\n\n\nWe invite you to drop in and use our space to help you unwind or recharge—with no pressure to engage in structured activities. We have several rooms and spaces available–a quiet lounge\, computer desks\, hang out sofas–you choose. It’s your time to use your way. \n\n\n\nOur space provides flexible seating options\, focus tools\, and adjustable lighting options as we strive to make our space more welcoming and inclusive to those who wish to spend time in it. \n\n\n\nOur drop-in hours are 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHere are some suggestions of things you may like to do\, but this is not an exhaustive list: \n\n\n\n\nSocializing: Chat with others\, make new connections\, or catch up with friends\n\n\n\nUsing Computers: Access  the internet\, complete personal tasks\, or explore hobbies online. Use our computers and wifi or bring your own device and connect via our network\n\n\n\nRelaxing: Sit quietly\, read\, listen to music with headphones\, or just enjoy the calm space\n\n\n\nIndependent Work: Bring personal projects\, homework or studying you may need to do\, or use the time to focus on tasks\n\n\n\nUnstructured Activities: puzzles\, sketching\, journaling\, or engaging in other personal hobbies\n\n\n\nExploring Resources: Learn about other programs\, events\, or services Sinneave offers\n\n\n\nSimply Being: Spend time in the space without any specific activity\, just enjoying the presence of others without any expectations to engage\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTo ensure a welcoming and safe space for all users\, please read over the Rules of the Space before you arrive: \n\n\n\n\nCheck-In is Required: Everyone signs in upon arrival\n\n\n\nNo Alcohol or Drugs: This is a substance-free space for everyone’s safety and comfort\n\n\n\nRespectful Content and Behavior: No engagement with explicit content and all interactions should be respectful\n\n\n\nNoise Levels: Keep volume moderate to accommodate diverse activities\n\n\n\nNo formal supervision provided: Attend and engage independently
