SUMMARY:The Employment Classroom: Creating a career plan
DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in learning more about all the stages of the employment journey and the steps you can take to lead you on a path to success? We are offering a series of workshops that cover many topics related to finding a job\, keeping a job\, and thriving in the workplace.  \n\n\n\nJoin us Wednesday\, September 24 to learn about the difference between a job and a career\, as well as what you can do to advance in your own career. \n\n\n\nSpecifically\, you will understand: \n\n\n\n\nWhy you need a career planning outline.\n\n\n\nWhat you should expect at a new job.\n\n\n\nWhy choosing a career that is practical and relevant to you is important.\n\n\n\nWhat challenges might be presented during your job search and in the job market.\n\n\n\n\nThe workshop combines classroom instruction and time to practice what you’ve learned with support from the facilitators\, if needed. DESCRIPTION:Many individuals can benefit from what is often referred to as a “third space”—a place separate from home or work or school where there is no obligation to spend money on food or beverages. So we’re opening our doors to members of our community. \n\n\n\nWe invite you to drop in and use our space to help you unwind or recharge—with no pressure to engage in structured activities. We have several rooms and spaces available–a quiet lounge\, computer desks\, hang out sofas–you choose. It’s your time to use your way. \n\n\n\nOur space provides flexible seating options\, focus tools\, and adjustable lighting options as we strive to make our space more welcoming and inclusive to those who wish to spend time in it. \n\n\n\nOur drop-in hours are 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHere are some suggestions of things you may like to do\, but this is not an exhaustive list: \n\n\n\n\nSocializing: Chat with others\, make new connections\, or catch up with friends\n\n\n\nUsing Computers: Access  the internet\, complete personal tasks\, or explore hobbies online. Use our computers and wifi or bring your own device and connect via our network\n\n\n\nRelaxing: Sit quietly\, read\, listen to music with headphones\, or just enjoy the calm space\n\n\n\nIndependent Work: Bring personal projects\, homework or studying you may need to do\, or use the time to focus on tasks\n\n\n\nUnstructured Activities: puzzles\, sketching\, journaling\, or engaging in other personal hobbies\n\n\n\nExploring Resources: Learn about other programs\, events\, or services Sinneave offers\n\n\n\nSimply Being: Spend time in the space without any specific activity\, just enjoying the presence of others without any expectations to engage\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTo ensure a welcoming and safe space for all users\, please read over the Rules of the Space before you arrive: \n\n\n\n\nCheck-In is Required: Everyone signs in upon arrival\n\n\n\nNo Alcohol or Drugs: This is a substance-free space for everyone’s safety and comfort\n\n\n\nRespectful Content and Behavior: No engagement with explicit content and all interactions should be respectful\n\n\n\nNoise Levels: Keep volume moderate to accommodate diverse activities\n\n\n\nNo formal supervision provided: Attend and engage independently

You will learn about different tools that will help you to make the connections between strengths and work opportunities. You will also learn about how to recognize and support your own needs through the process of supporting your young person on this journey. \n\n\n\nIn this session\, you will: \n\n\n\n\nLearn how to help your young adult identify their strengths and skills\n\n\n\nLearn about the tools that are available to help your adult match their skills to related jobs\n\n\n\nLearn how to create a Strengths-Based Job Search Plan\n\n\n\n\nWednesday\, September 24\, 20256:00 – 7:00 pmIn-person At The Ability Hub (300\, 3820 24 Avenue NW) \n\n\n\nThis series introduces you to The Sinneave Family Foundation’s Family Work Readiness Toolkit (FWRT)\, a practical\, strengths-based resource designed to help youth explore their interests\, skills\, values\, and preferred work environments. You will learn how to use the toolkit to guide supportive conversations\, set goals\, and take meaningful action toward employment success. \n\n\n\nThrough this series\, you will: \n\n\n\n\nBuild confidence in supporting your young adult’s employment journey\n\n\n\nLearn how to apply the FWRT at home to break the process into manageable steps\n\n\n\nExplore community resources that complement the toolkit\n\n\n\nConnect with other parents and guardians navigating similar experiences\n\n\n\n\nBy the end of the series\, you will have a stronger understanding of how to support your young adult’s transition into the workforce with practical tools\, shared insight\, and a clear starting point. \n\n\n\n** Space in these sessions is limited and advance registration is required through Sinneave Connects\, our online learning hub.
