SUMMARY:Navigating Bullying and Neurodivergence Series
DESCRIPTION:This workshop series is for Autistic and neurodivergent individuals who want to build practical skills to understand\, respond to\, and help prevent bullying. Together\, we’ll explore why bullying happens\, how to recognize it in different settings (including online and in the workplace)\, and how it uniquely affects neurodivergent people. These interactive sessions offer hands-on activities to practice strategies in a supportive\, inclusive environment. \n\n\n\nPlease note: This is a skill-building series and not a bullying support group\, or a substitute for professional mental health or crisis support.  \n\n\n\nParticipants are strongly encouraged to attend all three in-person sessions for this series which will be held as follows: \n\n\n\nSession 1: Understanding Bullying on November 19. More details are available here. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSession 1: Understanding Bullying \n\n\n\nThis session will cover the following topics: \n\n\n\n\nDifferent types and places bullying happens\,\n\n\n\nWhy bullying happens\,\n\n\n\nAutism and bullying\,\n\n\n\nBullying vs. conflict\, harassment\, and discrimination\,\n\n\n\nHow bullying affects people and\,\n\n\n\nPracticing what we’ve learned.\n\n\n\n\nWednesday\, November 19\, 20255:00 – 6:30 p.m.In-person at The Ability Hub (300\, 3820 24 Avenue NW) \n\n\n\nIn this workshop series\, participants will gain the skills and knowledge to: \n\n\n\n\nExplain the various reasons why bullying occurs and recognize the different forms and locations of bullying\, including online and in the workplace\,\n\n\n\nIdentify the signs and impact of bullying and describe how Autism and bullying are connected\,\n\n\n\nDifferentiate between bullying\, normal conflict\, and diagnosis-based discrimination\,\n\n\n\nReflect on their own actions for signs of bullying behaviour\,\n\n\n\nSupport someone else who is being bullied and try a variety of strategies to reduce the impact of bullying\,\n\n\n\nDevelop strategies to address and react to a bullying situation and help prevent future bullying and\,\n\n\n\nBe aware of supports for emotional coping and healing\, and resources for legal/logistical support.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n** Space in these sessions are limited\, and advance registration is required through Sinneave Connects\, our online learning hub. ** \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThere is no cost to attend and Sinneave Connects is free\, but you need to register for an account to use it. \n\n\n\nIf you already have a Sinneave Connects account\, just log in as usual. Tracie aims to create friendly and inclusive learning opportunities where participants feel a sense of belonging. \n\n\n\nMason Jaffray is an Autistic Self-Advocate\, currently working as a Program Facilitator at The Sinneave Family Foundation. DESCRIPTION:Many individuals can benefit from what is often referred to as a “third space”—a place separate from home or work or school where there is no obligation to spend money on food or beverages. So we’re opening our doors to members of our community. \n\n\n\nWe invite you to drop in and use our space to help you unwind or recharge—with no pressure to engage in structured activities. We have several rooms and spaces available–a quiet lounge\, computer desks\, hang out sofas–you choose. It’s your time to use your way. \n\n\n\nOur space provides flexible seating options\, focus tools\, and adjustable lighting options as we strive to make our space more welcoming and inclusive to those who wish to spend time in it. \n\n\n\nOur drop-in hours are 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHere are some suggestions of things you may like to do\, but this is not an exhaustive list: \n\n\n\n\nSocializing: Chat with others\, make new connections\, or catch up with friends\n\n\n\nUsing Computers: Access  the internet\, complete personal tasks\, or explore hobbies online. DESCRIPTION:As parents\, guardians\, and caregivers; you play an important part in the successful transition of a young adult into the workforce.  \n\n\n\nSession: Ask and Advocate for Your Needs  \n\n\n\nThis in-person session is focused on supporting your young adult to advocate for their needs. You will learn how to identify their support needs\, and brainstorm potential solutions they can share with their employer. You will learn how to create a Needs Communication Plan with your young adult so they have a clear idea of what they need to address when they are talking to an employer. You will also learn how to recognize your own needs in your journey to supporting your young adult through their transition into employment. \n\n\n\nIn this in-person session\, you will learn how to: \n\n\n\n\nHelp your young adult identify workplace support needs\,\n\n\n\nHelp your young adult to identify strategies and supports that will help address these needs\, and\n\n\n\nHelp your young adult to create a Needs Communication Plan.\n\n\n\n\nWednesday\, November 19\, 20256:00 – 7:30 pmIn-person At The Ability Hub (300\, 3820 24 Avenue NW) \n\n\n\nThis series introduces you to The Sinneave Family Foundation’s Family Work Readiness Toolkit (FWRT)\, a practical\, strengths-based resource designed to help youth explore their interests\, skills\, values\, and preferred work environments. You will learn how to use the toolkit to guide supportive conversations\, set goals\, and take meaningful action toward employment success. \n\n\n\nThrough this series\, you will: \n\n\n\n\nBuild confidence in supporting your young adult’s employment journey\,\n\n\n\nLearn how to apply the FWRT at home to break the process into manageable steps\,\n\n\n\nExplore community resources that complement the toolkit\, and\n\n\n\nConnect with other parents and guardians navigating similar experiences.\n\n\n\n\nBy the end of the series\, you will have a stronger understanding of how to support your young adult’s transition into the workforce with practical tools\, shared insight\, and a clear starting point. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n** Space in this session is limited\, and advance registration is required through Sinneave Connects\, our online learning hub.
