SUMMARY:The Housing Continuum Series: Market Housing (Ownership)
DESCRIPTION:The Housing Continuum Series is a 7-part virtual learning series that introduces and discusses the range of housing types typically available in a community. The housing continuum represents an assortment of housing options and types\, each critically important for different people at different times. \n\n\n\nThis session will focus on market housing\, specifically ownership in the market. Market Housing is defined as stable private rental and homeownership housing where prices are determined by landlords\, developers\, and real estate markets without direct subsidies or affordability mandates. Costs fluctuate based on supply\, demand\, and economic conditions. \n\n\n\nParticipants attending these sessions will strengthen their knowledge of the housing options in their community and understand how each part of the housing continuum works. They will also increase their understanding of how different types of housing can be welcoming\, accessible\, and inclusive for Autistic and neurodivergent people. \n\n\n\nMonday\, April 206:30 – 7:15 p.m.Online via Sinneave Connects There is no cost to attend. \n\n\n\nThis series will walk participants through each part of the housing continuum and provide real examples within Calgary. Attendees will learn how these shifts can contribute to concerns such as increased gum sensitivity\, inflammation\, bleeding\, dry mouth\, and a higher risk of cavities\, as well as how oral health is closely connected to overall health during these transitions. \n\n\n\nWith a supportive and practical approach\, this session will provide education on how to care for oral health during each life stage in a way that feels realistic and manageable. SUMMARY:The Role of Stigma and Trauma in Shaping Autistic Experiences
DESCRIPTION:This presentation will include an overview of research on the impacts of trauma and stigma on Autistic people. Tamara identifies as Autistic and uses she/her and they/them pronouns. Their work includes a focus on meaningfully including Autistic people in research to improve quality of life and health-related outcomes for Autistic people. Tamara discovered a passion for this work as a peer mentor in high school and pursued a BA in psychology and a MA in community counseling with a focus on neurodivergence\, stigma\, and trauma. \n\n\n\nIn her current work\, Tamara is studying how contextual factors\, including stigma and trauma\, shape Autistic peoples’ experiences in employment and education and\, in turn\, how these experiences impact their health and wellbeing. In their free time\, Tamara loves spending time with her cats\, gardening\, cooking\, listening to podcasts\, and watching movies or TV shows.
