Aspires Housing Group of Calgary – Connecting Virtually During COVID-19
There is no doubt that COVID -19 is challenging us all in ways we could never have imagined. Isolation, loss of employment, uncertainty around provincial programs and funding may result in feelings of anxiety and depression. For autistic adults and families who are part of the Aspires Housing Group the need for supported housing continues to exist even amidst these challenges. Knowing that we are not alone is important in taking care of our mental health.
Aspires is collaborating with The Sinneave Family Foundation to continue offering monthly meetings using virtual technology. Zoom meetings are a secure place where meeting participants can share the challenges they are experiencing, hear stories from others and provide mutual support.
Aspires will resume monthly meetings hosted on Zoom beginning May 7th. Three questions will be posed to those who attend:
1) What are your challenges given our current situation?
2) How are you coping and do you have any helpful tips you can share?
3) Is there anything Aspires can do to help?
We hope that by being part of a larger group, knowing you are not alone, and hearing about how others are coping will be helpful to all. While virtual meetings are not intended to permanently replace the regular in-person get-togethers, virtual speakers may become a continuing part of the Aspires experience when the pandemic is over. Aspires has exciting plans for inspiring speakers in the future that may include some local and international guests.
We invite you to join us on May 7th from 7pm – 9pm to connect with families and autistic adults who are part of the Aspires community.
Please email the Sinneave Supported Independent Living staff at firstname.lastname@example.org to RSVP and for Zoom meeting details, or if you have any general housing questions.
