The Sinneave Family Foundation along with partners Autism Speaks Canada and Southwest Autism Research and Resource Centre (SARRC) have been working for several years to develop a partnership that would bring SARRC’s highly successful CommunityWorks program to Canada. One of the key elements of the strategic partnership was to earn the support of the Federal Government.

Partnering with the Federal Government and Autism Speaks Canada is especially exciting because of the opportunity to grow vocational programs on a national level. Over the next 4 years, we can help thousands of young Canadians build promising futures, while meeting the needs of Canadian businesses.

CommunityWorks is a program that will contribute to a bright future for Canadian youth with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).  Through volunteer work and mentoring, participants in CommunityWorks will gain valuable experience, training and coaching and be prepared for full-time employment.  Research indicates volunteer work often serves as the first building blocks of a young person’s resume and is one of the best predictors of long-term employment success. CommunityWorks helps to ensure people on the autism spectrum have opportunities for volunteer work.

Autism Speaks Canada and the Sinneave Family Foundation have a shared vision of individuals with ASD being supported to achieve their best quality of life. Individuals with ASD have so much to offer. While there is an obvious social and economic benefit to employing individuals with disabilities, we look forward to the day when the majority of Canadian business owners realize employing individuals with disabilities is simply good business.

CommunityWorks is a program that will contribute to a bright future for Canadian youth with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). With programs like Meticulon, Recruits and CommunityWorks, the Sinneave Family Foundation is committed to ensuring employment opportunities for people with ASD.

We would like to thank Prime Minister Harper, the Honourable Jim Flaherty, PC, MP, the Honourable Jason Kenney, PC, MP and Mike Lake, PC, MP for their confidence.  We sincerely appreciate the confidence they have shown in our organizations by including CommunityWorks in the Government of Canada’s 2014 Economic Action Plan.

Thank-you Ottawa for supporting young Canadian’s with ASD.
