On April 22, 2015, an exciting new after-school pilot program for teens and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) kicked-off at The Ability Hub in Calgary. CommunityWorks Canada®, is a 14-week pre-employment training program for individuals with ASD ages 15 to 21, that provides opportunities to develop social, communication and employment skills through volunteer work experiences within the local community.  Using a 1:1 peer mentor support model, teens and young adults with ASD can practice such things as time management, learning to problem solve, social and workplace rules, and develop basic job skills while sampling potential areas of employment interest through a variety of community workplace venues. The program is 2.5 hours, one time per week for 14 weeks, and enables individuals to explore different work environments, make new friends, increase independence and build confidence.

The CommunityWorks Canada® program is sponsored by The Sinneave Family Foundation and Autism Speaks Canada, and is funded in part by the Government of Canada’s Opportunities Funds for Persons with Disabilities Program

There is no charge to participate in the program, and if you are interested in learning more, please call 403-210-5000.
