Since its inception, the EmploymentWorks Canada® (EWC) program has provided pre-employment training and skills development support to 24 participants in the Calgary area. The program is being offered as part of a 4-year federally funded initiative called Worktopia, and is helping individuals with ASD to identify new employment interests and/or educational options (should they wish to return to school) to assist with the development of potential career paths. We are pleased to announce that over 70 percent of the EWC graduates to date have found employment, despite the current economic challenges in Alberta.

The EWC program is continuing to build capacity within the community through the addition of several new community partnerships including connections with Rona Home and Garden, Emco Plumbing Supplies, The Bro’kin-Yolk and GoodLife Fitness. We would like to extend our profound gratitude for the continued support of our community partners who have opened their businesses to provide training opportunities for our participants. Many of these interactions have resulted in the employment of several ideal candidates. The last twelve weeks have provided a wealth of opportunities for our participants to learn, practice, and take the initial first steps towards developing confidence in a variety of employment settings.

Registration is now open for our upcoming session starting in September 2016. If you would like more information about the EmploymentWorks Canada® program and how to participate, please contact Michael Barrett at 403.210.5000 ext. 2013 or E-mail: You can also visit the Worktopia website at

EmploymentWorks Canada® is sponsored by The Sinneave Family Foundation and Autism Speaks Canada, and is funded in part by the Government of Canada’s Opportunities Fund for Persons with Disabilities Program.
