EmploymentWorks (EW) is an employment readiness program for adults with autism and other disabilities that is offered in 7 provinces across Canada.
On October 29, 2019, the Sinneave Family Foundation and Autism Speaks Canada hosted program staff and organizational leadership from all 8 EW program locations across Canada for a full day of knowledge sharing at the first EmploymentWorks Together event in Calgary, AB.
EmploymentWorks Together provided a unique opportunity for attendees to network with peers, share program learnings, discuss data findings, and identify opportunities to build community and system capacity.
A ‘data party’ gave the group an opportunity to examine and discuss the early findings from the national data set pertaining to EmploymentWorks participants and their employment journey.
Disclosure was also a topic of interest – EW participants from Calgary and Montreal shared their perspectives and experience with disclosure and self-advocacy in the workplace.
Key takeaways from the event include refining and expanding our knowledge exchange efforts and creating additional opportunities for program staff across the country to collaborate and share ideas. EmploymentWorks Together will be held in Montreal in 2020.
