Further to the listening sessions held by the Government of Alberta in Calgary and Edmonton on May 11th and 12th, and the resulting FSCD Action Plan that was announced in early July, Sinneave would like to share this update from The Government of Alberta:

I am pleased to share an update with you on the FSCD Action Plan that was released last month.

We are appreciative of the feedback parents and families provided about the FSCD program and take the concerns that have been raised very seriously.

As promised, we have changed our Specialized Services policy, Family Centred Supports and Services policy, FSCD Program Outcomes Policy and Overarching Policies and Considerations Policy to confirm that direct services to children are supported and parent involvement is not required in the delivery of specialized services. Please click on each of the images below to see the updated policies.

We have made changes to resources like the website, FSCD brochure, Welcome to FSCD letter and Director’s Decision about Specialized Services letter to align with legislation and confirm that specialized services do not require parents to become therapists or be involved in the delivery of specialized services.

We also committed to sharing a tool kit of additional resources with you, which you can find attached. It includes:

  • General information about specialized services
  • Information about what to do if you have concerns about the services you are receiving or a decision of the FSCD program
  • Information about multi-year agreements and how to access them
  • Information about available services and approaches. This is an initial list that we will continue to update and share with families.

As part of our action plan, we committed to further improvements over the next few months. I look forward to updating you as this work continues, and sharing details about additional listening sessions that will be held.

Once again, thank you for all your feedback.
