The Sinneave Family Foundation (Sinneave) is committed to improving the transition to adulthood for individuals with autism.  Sinneave currently provides some support to housing committees through two Ambassadors from the Resource Centre at The Ability Hub, who are active in facilitating information exchange and collaboration between family groups, developers, support agencies and government to develop solutions to meet the variety of needs for vulnerable citizens.  Here is a quick look at the recent highlights of this work:

Attainable Homes Calgary Corporation

The October Aspires Business Meeting Guest speaker was Jenn McCarron, Communications and Marketing Manager with Attainable Homes Calgary Corporation.

Attainable Homes Calgary Corporation is a non-profit organization, created and owned by the City of Calgary. The purpose of the Attainable Homes home ownership program is to give people a boost getting into home ownership. AHCC are interested in working with our families who want greater security of tenure to find long-term housing solutions in a like-minded community.  With several individuals living in close proximity, support could be more cost effective, allowing them to control their own living space without affecting their AISH eligibility.

Intentional Community Consortium Update

The Intentional Community Consortium (ICC) is calling on the Federal Government to make a commitment to provide affordable housing for people with developmental disabilities. The Federal Government has indicated they will fund a new National Housing Strategy with $11.2B to increase affordable housing, eliminate homelessness, etc.  They anticipate further details may be provided on November 22nd, National Housing Day.  ICC believes that 5% of whatever amount is committed to housing, at the federal or provincial level, should support housing for people with developmental disabilities.  Click here for more information about the ICC.

Next Aspires Business Meeting

The Aspires Housing Committee is a family based umbrella group, working to develop family driven housing solutions covering a variety of support needs and providing families mutual support as well as an opportunity to network.
