Launch + Skills Spotlight on Travis – June 2020
“I like how helpful and supportive the staff are.”
Travis joined the Launch + Skills program in February of 2019. He had recently come to Calgary and wanted support in gaining independence with transportation as well as with his goals involving employment training. Travis practiced taking the bus to new locations around the Calgary area with his Skills Coach. He also joined the EmploymentWorks program to get specialized training and hands-on experience through job sampling.
Travis was able to learn how to navigate the transit system independently, and he decided to elevate his original goal and get his Graduated Learners Licence! Travis also secured a job at Safeway, where he is an excellent employee and has been asked by management to train other coworkers.
Travis has demonstrated dedication to completing his goals and continues to keep in contact with his Skills Coach to ensure he has support whenever he might need it. In his time spent at The Ability Hub, Travis also participated in the Beast Mode program which provided him the opportunity to work on his physical health, while making social connections beyond those he was able to create through Launch + Skills cafés.
We are so proud of all that Travis has accomplished and look forward to see how he continues to grow!
