1) Communication

2) Executive Functioning

3) Anxiety

Below you you will find an introduction into each of these Skills Groups.

Our first series of sessions will begin March 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, respectively. Each group will consist of 4 consecutive weekly sessions. The total cost of each Skills Group Series is $40 ($10/Session).  Sinneave is committed to overcoming financial barriers to service. If you would like to participate, but the cost would create a financial hardship, please contact us.

If you would like to be considered for one of these groups, please click here to submit your name and contact information. The group instructor will contact you to help you decide if this skills group is right for you.

Skills Groups are best suited for

  • Self-advocates (15 yrs and older) who are interested in learning more about Executive Functioning, Anxiety Management and/or Conversation Skills, and learning/practicing strategies to support the development of skills in these areas. Note: These Skills Group are not intended for support workers, aides, caregivers, or other professionals.  SFF offers workshops on a regular basis that are available to all.
  • Autistic individuals who can communicate verbally and do not require one-to-one support to participate in the group.
  • Self-advocates who are willing to learn and practice new skills in a group environment.
  • Participants who are willing to practice reflecting and sharing their thoughts with the group.
  • Participants who have either a desktop computer/laptop/iPad, a secure internet connection, and a private space in their home to participate in the group.  The expectation is that participants are willing to interact using both their camera and microphone.

Communication Skills Group:

  • Creating better relationships?
  • Developing skills to influence others?
  • Enhancing your self-confidence?
  • Taking your communication skills to the next level?

  1. Steps for Understanding Nonverbal Cues/Body Language
  2. Strategies for Engaging in Conversations
  3. Strategies for Using Alternate Forms (e.g., Electronic, Text Message) of Communication
  4. Steps for Handling Disagreements & Rules for Communicating in different social contexts.

The next series of sessions will be on the following Tuesdays:  March 2, 9, 16 and 23, 2021, from 4:00-6:00pm. Participants will have the opportunity to learn and practice new communication skills within a safe and supportive environment.

Executive Functioning Skills Group

Do you:

  • Struggle with unexpected changes?
  • Have trouble getting started, or maybe have trouble stopping things you like to do when it’s time to do something you don’t like to do?
  • Have you ever avoided an experience or a person because of your anxiety?
  • How about when you have a great idea, but have trouble creating and acting on a plan to get it done.

If so, learning more about Executive Functioning may be for you. Research has shown us that the skills underlying Executive Functioning can be taught, practiced and improved on. When Executive Functioning Skills are working, we tend to be happier and more productive. We are excited to invite self-advocates and individuals who identify as autistic to attend an four part workshop on Executive Functioning (EF). We will cover:

  1. Cognitive Flexibility
  2. Starting and Stopping Behavior
  3. Anxiety and Avoidance
  4. Planning

Participants will learn about the importance of Executive Functioning and how to improve EF skills through specific practice.

The next series of sessions will be on the following Wednesdays:  March 3, 10, 17 and 24, 2021, from 3:30-5:30pm. Participants will have the opportunity to learn and practice executive functioning skills within a safe and supportive environment.
