Objectives:

  1. Participants will learn about the prevalence of mental health disorders in ASD.
  2. Participants will learn why it is necessary to differentiate the underlying cause of problem behaviours in ASD.
  3. Participants will be introduced to a variety of intervention strategies (both individual and parent) that can be effective in managing mental health issues in ASD.

Level II: This session builds on an overview of ASD and Mental Health, and would best meet the needs of families/caregivers or professionals with some knowledge of, or experience with this topic. This session is presented by the Community Education Service of the Child and Adolescent Addictions and Mental Health Portfolio (CAAMHP) of Alberta Health Services in partnership with The Ability Hub.
