As part of the Federal Economic Action Plan 2014, The Sinneave Family Foundation and Autism Speaks Canada were provided with $11.4 million over 4 years to establish a network of pre-employment training programs in five regions across Canada. The project, now known as Worktopia, aims to provide meaningful opportunities for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to explore their vocational interests in a wide variety of community and workplace settings, while developing skills necessary for future employment success.

Worktopia offers three unique peer-supported pre-employment training programs for individuals ages 15-29, as they prepare to transition from high school to independent adulthood. CommunityWorks Canada®, EmploymentWorks Canada and SchoolWorks Canada are currently being rolled out in Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Whitby and Halifax, with additional locations starting in 2016. We are very excited about the potential impact these programs will have on the employment readiness of individuals with ASD, and to creating opportunities for employers to better understand and engage a workforce that is known to be highly reliable, capable and dedicated employees.

Worktopia programs are funded in part by the Government of Canada’s Opportunities Fund for Persons with Disabilities Program. If you are interested in learning more, please call 403-210-5000 or e-mail us at info@worktopia.ca.
