The Directors Scholarship honours the service of both current and previous members of Sinneave’s Board of Directors.

The award supports the advancement of education after high school by providing a scholarship for training expenses that provide knowledge or develop abilities. This includes:

  • Tuition
  • Books and supplies
  • Tools, aids or equipment that may be required to enable learning (for example: a computer)
  • Housing
  • Travel expenses

Instruction or training must be provided in a structured manner by an institution/organization which is registered for taxation purposes.

Proof of enrollment must be provided to Sinneave before payment of the scholarship.

This scholarship is taxable income, so a recipient will be asked to provide their social insurance number for the T4A before the scholarship can be issued.

Value:

Each scholarship is valued at $1000 and for 2026 up to 20 scholarships are available. 

Timing:

The deadline to apply is 9:00 a.m. on July 20, 2026 and successful applicants will be notified via email by August 31, 2026.

Eligibility:

  • 17 years of age or older
  • Have a diagnosis or self-identify as Autistic
  • Resident of Alberta
  • Recipients may receive the Directors Scholarship once
  • Individuals that are directors, officers, employees, volunteers, or student interns, during the time the application is open, and their immediate family members are not eligible to receive Sinneave scholarships and awards.
  • Program start September 2026 or later

Selection Process:

Sinneave’s Scholarship Committee will review and score applications and recommend applicants for approval of Sinneave’s President. A strong application will take about one hour to prepare. The questions about learning goals and impact will have answers of more than one sentence. 

Applications will be evaluated and scored with a total possible score of 100, according to the following criteria:

Learning goals: Description of educational and professional goals. Value 40/100

Impact: Explanation of how the funds will be used and the difference receiving the scholarship will make for you. Value 40/100

Application Effort and Overall Quality: Application is clear and thoughtful. Value 20/100

Notification:

All applicants will be notified of selection results by email by August 31, 2026.

Payment:

The scholarship will be paid by cheque after the recipient provides proof of enrollment to a program that starts in fall of 2026 or later. A T4A will be issued for the amount of the award.
