Futures is a free peer support program in Calgary where Autistic youth and adults work one-to-one with an Autistic peer to figure out what matters to them, set their own goals, and get facilitated peer support to move forward.

What is Futures?

In Futures, you will work with an Autistic peer to explore what matters to you, choose a goal that feels right for you, and figure out who or what can support you along the way.

You do not need to have everything figured out to join. Futures is about learning, exploring, and taking steps at your own pace. Conversations are respectful, non-judgemental, and led by you.

Futures is for people who:

  • Are 15 years of age or older
  • Identify as being Autistic and/or neurodivergent
  • Can attend in-person in Calgary
  • Want support with goals related to:
    • Employment
    • Post-secondary education
    • Housing or living more independently

Futures has two parts:

  1. One-to-one peer support

You will meet individually with an Autistic peer. These sessions focus on:

  • What matters to you – you decide what is important in your life right now.
  • Your goal – you choose a goal that makes sense for you. Goals can be big or small and can change over time.
  • Your supports – you identify people or resources that may help you, such as friends, family, coworkers, or community services.

Most people complete this part in 3 to 6 sessions.

  1. Group peer support

Once you have completed the one-to-one sessions, you can join the peer-to-peer group sessions.

The group offers:

  • Peer-to-peer support
  • Shared experiences and ideas
  • Conversations about toipics that affect your goals

You can continue attending the group for as long as you like.

One-to-one sessions:

  • Are offered once per week
  • Sessions last 1 hour
  • Most people complete this part of the service in 3 to 6 sessions
  • You may be invited to have one follow-up session in the weeks after your completion

Group sessions:

  • Are offered once every two weeks
  • Sessions are facilitated for 1 hour; with the option to continue discussions with your peers after the session ends
