Do you find it difficult to communicate when someone disagrees with you?
Join us Tuesday, October 3, 2023 from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. to talk about conflict and share tips to help you keep your cool when you’re in the middle of a disagreement, as well as provide strategies to help you work through it.

This session is one of a series of six drop-in workshops designed to provide autistic and neurodivergent individuals opportunities to learn and practice essential social communication skills. Each 90-minute workshop covers a different aspect of social communication, providing information, tips and strategies to help autistic and neurodivergent individuals to connect and thrive in social situations.

All workshops are in-person at The Ability Hub (300, 3820 24 Avenue NW).

There is no cost to attend these sessions.

Advance registration is not required – you can attend them all (we recommend this!) or just the ones that seem interesting to you.

All sessions begin promptly at 4:00 p.m.

If attending in-person presents a barrier for you, you can also choose to attend virtually via Sinneave Connects, our online learning portal. Sinneave Connects is FREE, but you must register for an account to use it.

In this session, we’ll talk about the implications of online safety and discuss strategies for navigating electronic communication and maintaining good mental health in the process.

Establishing Social Connections: 5 Pro-tips for developing social relationships in your community
Meeting new people and making friends isn’t always easy. In this session, we’ll share 5 tips you can practice and use when it comes to making friends and maintaining social relationships.

Handling Disagreements in communication: Tips for keeping your cool
Do you find it difficult to communicate when someone disagrees with you? In this session, we’ll talk about conflict and share tips to help you keep your cool when you’re in the middle of a disagreement, as well as provide strategies to help you work through it.

Welcome to our Summer Drop-in Workshop Series!

These workshops are designed to provide Autistic and Neurodivergent individuals opportunities to learn and practice essential skills related to Executive Functioning (EF), Acceptance & Commitment Training (ACT) and Social Communication.

Each 90-minute workshop covers a different topic, providing information, tips and strategies that will assist attendees in connecting and thriving in everyday life. Participants will have the opportunity to learn and practice new skills, receive feedback and mentorship in a welcoming, small group setting.

  • All sessions are in-person at The Ability Hub, located at 300, 3820 24th Avenue N.W.
  • There is a Zoom option available if attending in person is a barrier for you. Email info@sinneavefoundation.org for the link.
  • There is no cost to attend these sessions.

Tuesday, June 20 – Acceptance & Commitment Training (ACT): Choosing a path through a dilemma
What do you do when faced with a dilemma? Learn practical, specific steps that help you to identify what is most important and how to choose a path through the dilemma. There will be opportunities for discussion and questions.

Tuesday, June 27 – Handling Disagreements: Top tips for keeping your cool
Do you get frustrated when someone disagrees with you? Do you find it difficult to stay calm and composed? In this session, we’ll talk about conflict and share the top tips to help you keep your cool when you’re in the middle of a disagreement and
strategies to help you work through it.

Tuesday, June 27 – Executive Functioning (EF): Strategies for Getting Started
Do you find it challenging to get started doing the things you want or need to do? This session will explore the executive functioning skills of initiation and inhibition, and how they work together to get us going or get us stuck.

Tuesday, July 18 – Executive Functioning (EF): Setting Priorities
This workshop is for people who find it challenging to set day-to-day and weekly priorities and it is impacting their life directly. The session will cover various methods for setting short term priorities (daily-weekly) and assist participants in creating a plan to apply what they’ve learned.

Tuesday, July 25 – Acceptance & Commitment Training (ACT): What is resentment? Strategies for working with it.
Do you Resent Feeling Resentful? This workshop will explore what resentment is and why we might feel it, as well as give participants specific and concrete skills to work with resentment in the future.

Are disagreements with your friends or family a constant source of frustration? This workshop is for people interested in learning strategies for handling disagreements and maintaining social relationships.

Tuesday, August 9 – 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.

This workshop is part of our Drop-In Summer Workshop Series covering different topics that provide tips and strategies to help improve your ability to connect and thrive in social situations. Participants will have opportunities to learn and practice new skills, as well as receive feedback and mentorship.

There is no registration required. The workshops take place on various days and at different times of day, so please make sure you take note of these details.

Workshops will take place at The Ability Hub – #300, 3820 24th Avenue NW Calgary, AB – and will start promptly at the posted start time. To make the most of the group, please plan to arrive a few minutes early.

Parking Instructions: For those of you who will arrive in your own car, The Sinneave Family Foundation is pleased to cover the cost of your parking during the workshop. When you arrive, park your car in Lot 53 and do not buy a ticket. Come up to our reception desk on the 3rd Floor and let them know you are here for a Summer Series workshop and need a parking pass. Please ensure you allow enough time to take the pass back to your vehicle and return to the 3rd Floor before the workshop start time.
