In the early years of The Sinneave Family Foundation, we had many conversations about the urgent need for housing and met with many families that were interested in developing projects where their adults could live as independently as possible. Several families put quite a bit of time and effort into planning housing projects but few, if any were built. We kept looping back to the question, “Why is it so hard to get affordable housing built?” During this time our housing team was also meeting with affordable housing organizations to better understand their expertise. After we spent some time with the affordable housing sector to understand the complex process of funding and building affordable housing, we realized that affordable housing providers ARE the experts in building affordable housing.

Sinneave shifted our efforts and began to focus on building connections between autistic adults and their support systems, autism support agencies and affordable housing providers. By each focusing on our own areas of expertise, we are now finding significant success as the point of access that connects autistic adults to affordable housing with the right levels of support.

This 10 minute video speaks to the need for affordable housing and supports and shares the step-by-step process of how the Horizon View and Legacy on 5th projects came together.
