The Autistic Adult Community Needs and Priorities Survey is closed. Thank you to everyone that took the time to complete the survey. Your time and input are truly appreciated.

We’ve compiled a brief analysis of the results for you.

Two thirds of respondents were autistic adults between the ages of 18 and 55. Three quarter of responses were received from Calgary (50%) and Edmonton (25%), followed by rural outside of Edmonton, Calgary, or Red Deer (11%).

A majority of respondents are interested in social opportunities that focus on an interest, skill or hobby. There was slightly more interest in in-person activities compared to virtual activities. Overwhelmingly, Monday to Friday evenings from 5-9 pm was the preferred time to participate in activities, followed by Saturday and Sunday afternoons or evenings.

Trends that stood out in the written feedback are the importance of “group make up” and the differences between rural and urban areas.

In terms of topics for learning opportunities, we narrowed down the top five choices for Autistic adults and the top five choices for parents. You’ll notice there is some overlap between the two groups.

In terms of learning formats, there is an interest in group social activities but for skill learning one-on-one is preferred. Short videos were preferred over written resources.

The rich feedback and collective wisdom that has been shared during focus groups and through the online survey will help Sinneave plan our activities, programs, services and advocacy in 2023 and beyond.
