This session is one of a series of six drop-in workshops designed to provide Autistic and neurodivergent individuals opportunities to learn and practice essential social communication skills. Each 90-minute workshop covers a different aspect of social communication, providing information, tips and strategies to help Autistic and neurodivergent individuals to connect and thrive in social situations.

In this one-hour session, participants will learn about the importance of values and how they inform our life goals. We will also learn about SMART goals and how to determine what yours might be. Attendees will have an opportunity to participate in a values exercise and a goal setting exercise to practice these skills.

Join us for The Joy of Cooking: Cooking Skills for Independent Living

5:00 – 8:00 p.m.

at The Ability Hub (300, 3820 24 Avenue NW)

This hands-on session is a great way to help you increase your confidence in the kitchen.

While preparing a tasty and well-balanced dinner, participants will also learn about:

  • the importance of good hygiene
  • cleanliness in the kitchen and the importance of preventing cross-contamination
  • the proper use of utensils
  • how to properly measure and prepare food, and
  • working with others.

And then, you’ll get to enjoy what you’ve made for dinner!

The menu for this session is Beef Sliders with a side of Apple Cole Slaw.

This activity is in-person only and limited to six participants. There will only be light support provided by staff, so participants need to be able to follow instructions and be willing to work in a small group to prepare the meal. All supplies will be provided.

About the presenter: Before coming to Canada, Santiago “Santi” Ghio says he was a picky eater. When he was in high school, he learned how to cook through a special cooking program and his love of cooking led him to an internship program at SAIT. Soon after, he registered for SAIT’s culinary program and graduated in 2017 as a professional cook.

Now 28-years-old, Santi received an autism diagnosis in 2022 and participated in Sinneave’s Launch + Skills program. Having previously worked part-time in restuarants, Santi found his perfect match at Sobey’s where he’s worked in the Deli department for the past three years. The predictable routine of his work environment fits his needs perfectly.

Now, he wants to share his knowledge and love of cooking with others on the spectrum, inspiring them to develop confidence in the kitchen and build skills for independent living–and delicious eating!

It’s essential to have basic computer skills in order to find success in both education and employment. Here at Sinneave, we are passionate about providing practical, hands-on opportunities for skill-building so autistic & neurodivergent youth and adults can thrive in their everyday lives. Whether you’re heading back to school at the end of the summer or will be starting a new job, we’ve got you covered!

In this session, attendees will learn the basic computer skills every person needs to find success in education, employment and life.

Learn about the Microsoft Office suite of tools–primarily Word, Excel and PowerPoint–ask questions, and practice using the software, learning the basics of each tool and in what scenarios you might need to use each one.

*Because this is a hands-on session and participants require a computer with the necessary software, attendance is limited to in-person only.
